what does "radical unschooling" mean to you?
child centred opportunity lead learning through guidance and support, where I facilitate his learning needs and try to not teach, to trust that he can make the decisions that will make him happy and gain the confidence to take part in the greater community comfortably, while embedding all this with understanding the needs and wants of my child through love and nurturing and trying to say yes to him but not being afraid to say no.
how long have you been unschooling or homeschooling?
since march 4th 2009
names and ages of children
keilym (male) aged 7
a little about me
I am 47 and have been a stay at home mum to our son since we adopted him at the age of 5, he was, and is a severely traumatised child because of his early experiences, he went to school for 1.5 years (on the advice of social work) and was further traumatised by the experience of being told "you have to conform" so after much consideration we decided to take him out so that we could help him heal. I now wished i had made the decision much earlier!

I didn't know it was originally a book, thanks! We have a few adventures but nothing quite so dramatic as the film depicts!

Thanks so much, Angie, this is the first time I've joined in on any sort of 'forum'. Nim - the film with Jodie Foster?!

Hi Angie, thanks for the msg. We are in Slaithwaite (pronounced Slawit by local folks) near Huddersfield (W. Yorkshire). Only an hour away on the train to York. Though I am from Gloucester originally, so I don't have the Yorkshire accent...yet!

Hi Angie - thanks for the welcome. I am down in Armadale, West Lothian, and I am 48. It is great to find people with similar outlooks relatively nearby - I wish I had discovered this RUS philosophy with my older children.
ps - LOA = law of attraction.

Hi Angie, I'm not entirely sure what it all means myself, but I think it makes it easier for us to talk to each other or something?? How did you find it living off grid? I'm trying very slowly to guide my family towards self sufficiency, but I'm not sure they would cope with being completely off grid.
