- what does "radical unschooling" mean to you?
- being open to my child completely leading the way with her own curiosity and interests as she expresses them so. I may say no to something but usually change that to a yes because i realize my daughter request really isn't that big of a deal whether she wants to be messy, creative, resourceful, non tradition, exploratory, i try and just let her go with it and the price of her learning may be a big clean up for me after or going on an adventure but it's worth it for her self willed education!

- a little about me
- I am a single mom. I left home early (15 almost 16) to go to college early and live in the dorms and i pretty much decided at some point to just take the classes i REALLY wanted to take and follow my own agenda. At 18 i received a trust fund and started a real estate investing business with my brother and we traveled and went to a ton of seminars to. I blew the money...was no good at the job i was doing since i felt like i was scamming people (feeding off of forclosures and more) even though it was legal. I had no money left and decided to take off into the big world with $0! I had a friend pay for me to drive them to Clevland Oh and then his mom who i was going to work for in Virginia Beach paid for me to get out there. I had only made 170 working for her in a few months (still no good at real estate and i was doing work trade for housing so could not save much) and so i traveled down as far south as i could with the money i had. I paid for a hostel for the week in Miami then found a job and lived there for four month (it ended up being about 600 a month for rent). I was unhappy with the rat race and not being able to save up enough money to fly home to Utah for Christmas and just had enough money to get by. I also didn't really like the super slow pace in South Beach Miami, not long term anymore and i wanted to explore more. I then drove up to Manhattan this time Couch Surfing. I asked my host before arriving if i could CS until i found a place to live. He ended up renting to me for the few months i lived there and he had a few long term renters going to school and other couchsurfers that would come through making for a very interesting and dynamic house hold! I found a few jobs in Manhattan from dog walker to getting paid to learn someone's technich for playing the piano and a job at a very fast paste hair salon where i made most my income from and after a few months at that i was over stressed and ready to move on!! I did a road trip through the Appalachian mountains and down through New Orleans and the Louisiana Bayou and then back home to Salt Lake for a few months and then as i was going on my next adventure to Alaska i found myself in Seattle for a couple years first. I like the vibe of Seattle more than anywhere i had lived so far. I had great jobs and room mates there but then needed to finish my adventure to Alsaska where i went crabbing with a friend of mine on the Wrangel Narrows off of Juneau which weren't as dangerous as the Bering Strait. I also lived on a sail boat in Petersburg for a few months. In the dead of winter in Alaska mexico started sounding really nice so i flew down there. I wanted to travel around through central America but after being robbed/abducted and having a good deal of my money stolen i decided to go home to Utah after 4 years away. I found a job at a ski resort so i could snow board that winter i returned. I met the father of my child that spring. That was my first soon to be long term relationship. i went to massage school finished and then became pregnant. I worked until i was 7 months prego. I had an amazing home birth. Did an amazing trip with my daughter in my belly too all the way up the west coast visiting friends in Seattle. I left my daughters dad when she was four months old. It just kept going more and more south with him and i didn't want my daughter to see a guy being violent. It took a year to get ourselves settled. I tried moving out to New hampshire once in that time but came home just before my daughter turned one. We've lived in a nice little place in really progressive and artsy neighborhood and now she is two. My goal since i left my daughters dad was to not leave her until she was ready for that. Just around turning two my daughter has been able to go to the neighbors or friends house for a few hours without me. I'd like to find a good unschooling community and try living in Oregon for at least a year to see how we like it there. I've traveled a lot with my daughter since she was born and she loves flying! She has been on 28 planes now! Our last trip was to Kauai, which we both loved!! I'd love to spend more time in Hawaii because of all the nice beaches and jungley areas to explore! It's a bit expensive so if at some point i am able to get the online business that i would like to do going then maybe we could go there a couple months out of every year or something like that! My daughter and i are very amiable people! Every second with my daughter i am so incredibly grateful for! I am having so much fun being a mom and i'd love to have more someday when i find that special other again. So many other millions of adventures I've had in between this basic time line of mine. Once i had my daughter i never really felt like there was anything else i would need or want to do besides be the best my i could for her since i had done so much traveling and exploring in my life (even though i had wanted to do more abroad travels). But unfortunately the first year after i left her dad i did have to worry about money but once i sort of figured that out a bit and got used to our new budget and incredibly resourceful....i've just been enjoying this past over a year with my daughter. I look forward to many more great years with my daughter and to becoming really active in the Unschooling Community and diving really into Non-Violent Communication. I'd like to have websites going in the next year that will bring in enough to live on!

I met him when he lived here in Monteverde, Costa Rica with his family a few years back.
