In the trenches...
Our unschooling adventure has just begun and each day brings with it a new opportunity full of hope and excitement or uncertainty and doubt. Three weeks ago, when my thirteen year old and I decided to take this turn in her education, I knew I had tried all other options, to make public school work for her and that it wasn't going to change, we had to. While I have always held faith in alternative education, I didn't see unschool as an option for her, not until we hit the wall in the…

Life has been crazy and yet peaceful all at the same time. Is that even possible? I am not sure but...either way it has been for us.
Thomas had has big 9th birthday this weekend. We went to a community center and swam, ran on track (he wanted to, not me), ping pong and pool. Then went home to a homemade ice cream cake, yummy! All in all the day was good except Jon wasn't feeling great, Emily was running a high fever and by the end of the evening poor Thomas was running a fever. I…

First Blog Entry
Wow, what an original title! :p Anyway, I'm going to give this blog a try. I currently "own" three other blogs but they've all fallen by the wayside. So sad. :( However I'm wanting to blog a bit re: our unschooling journey, and it feels "safe" to do so here. It was funny today there is snow and the public school is close today, so Thomas asked me if we have to do school today. I then asked him when is the last time he did school? His reply...Don't know, mine..lets keep it that way. Told him not to worry bout school any more that I was done :) His response: Good I hate when you make me sit and do work! Thank you unschooling for…

So this is day two of major research into unschooling. I am very thankful for a reply I got on new with questions post.
I have spent much of the morning on the couch watching the kids play while trying to research as much as I can on my lap top. While I am not sure this is unschooling, it has been a nice relaxing day in the sense that they are not expected to be at the table with notebooks and tears! I see unschooling as a much more hands on on my part then I am right now and that is…

I can't believe I forgot about this site. I became a member over a year ago but...someone it got lost in all my links. I am so glad I found it though as I have a feeling this can be a very helpful site.
My name is Amanda. I have been wonderfully married for 12 years. We are blessed with three wonderful children. Thomas is 8, will be 9 on Sat. Jon is 7, will be 8 at the beginning of March. And Emily who is 2, she won't be 3 till July.
I have fluttered around between…
