Television and other Stuff

My five year old loves TV. So do I, so it's no surprise, actually.

Instead of telling her that I had to walk a mile in the snow, uphill, to get to school, I regale her with tales of only three channels! Cartoons on Saturday! No huge flat screen! And (gasp!) no DVR!



It's interesting to me how she immerses herself in a show. She will only watch that show... and then she moves on. Her interests usually last a month or so.… Continue

Dreams of School Days encourage me to home-school

I find it very amusing that so many of my dreams these days are about witnessing groups of children running from the school bus to the school building or from classroom to classroom, as well as plastic tubs full of supplies left untouched. I never dream of lessons being done...just about the transportation process from here to there. And that is what so much of formal schooling seems to be about. Getting Beyond the Age Factor

I have read many stories of home-schooled children accomplishing beyond what is expected of young people at young ages. I want to give my daughter a chance for developing this type of confidence - something neither my husband nor myself received when we attended school at her age. Following Curriculum causes Stress!

Sometimes my kids get bored at home so I finally took the plunge and bought 2 units of an American curriculum- Moving Beyond the Page.

The package arrived and they unwrapped it and were so excited about all the books and scales etc. All I could see was the proper order things should be used in and read.
