To all our friends,
Hard times have come to the Coburn family. Over the last couple of years the various disasters visited on the film industry and a period of bad luck in the professional arena has led to long periods of unemployment for James. This time last year he was prepping his first movie in about a year. He was very optimistic as he had bookings for three good pictures during 2009, and a promise of a full time job teaching at a film school, for between…

It's quite hard to maintain two blogs. If you guys don't mind, I will copy posts from my Blogger. I like writing about unschooling so you won't miss nothing.

I was wondering if you could give me a little advice? I am unschooling my two girls and its going great with my oldest who is 11. She is really into wanting to be a Ga Ranger and work for the local DNR. She loves to spend her time studying nature and animals. She is always watching nature movies and tv shows on Nova. She asked questions and everything seems so easy because she asks for more. My worry tho is my youngest she is 9 and has always been a little behind as far as learning has gone. I…

When we moved out of our house the end of January I thought we got rid of a whole bunch of stuff. I was drowning in mess and stuff and clutter. We moved everything into a 10x20 and there was plenty of room to walk around in and move things.
Yesterday we had it moved into the house we have decided to stay in at least till spring. I have to wonder if things did not have multiply in the moving truck. Some how this scant 10x20 unit has filled up the 3 bedroom house to the point its going…

We got a little indoor trampoline today. So far the girls have explored jumping up and down, the twist, jumping jacks knee lifts and made up a few moves to name.
My teen has come up with a new get in shape program as she has decided it is time to work on her health. This week she has also discovered the joy of eating raw bell peppers of a variety of colors. They must be in season as they were a really good price.
The youngest has started in on her Halloween cards. We…

Anika was suposed to get her first pair of real figure skates for her birthday August 2. Unfortunately, she broke her pinky toe three days before and couldn't do the fitting. So finally, last week her Ortho Dr said she could resume skating (but not gymnastics yet) and we went and had her fitted. She's been waiting for the special size they ordered and gets to go try them on (and hopefully buy them) today. She is sooo excited.
As luck shone, she also came into a hand me down beautiful…

What? I thought this was an unschooling blog.... My kids don't have a first day of school. At least they didn't. My brave, independent minded 13yo Sydney has decided to find out what this High School experience so central to our culture is all about. Today I drove her to the school and dropped her off. She is ready for an experience, but unlike almost every other kid there, she is doing it because she wants to and she knows that she isn't stuck there at all.
I do have a twinge of…

I am notably bad about blogging. I don't do a lot of writing on the boards either although I do chime in from time to time. It came as a surprise to me, therefore, when after my first successful attempt at the phenomenon known as nanowrimo (www.nanowrimo.org/) I became completely obsessed with writing fiction.
My husband, sweet insightful man that he is, bought me a MacBook so I could write while I waited for the kids at all of their many activities. What a revelation. I have to…
