Dog trainer

Shug decided that she wanted to sew a pouch to hold dog training treats for her puppy. She was very happy with her results and started training right away.

Food Restriction Solution

I have struggled with the whole food restrictions issue for awhile now not because I believe in restricting food but for one, I do need to watch my daughters diet to some extent. Her blood pressure and heart rate can soar to extremly scary levels that started when she was three years old. After a zillion tests and almost hospitizing her a few times they never really figured out why. She can get very close to heart attack levels and is extremly scary, the only thing that ever seems to help is…

India for a month, in a month

In a month, I'm leaving for India. I'll stay with Hema Bharadwaj's family, in Pune. They visited Albuquerque a year ago and we had "The Monkey Platter Festival" for them because they couldn't make it to the U.S. for a conference. http://monkeyplatterfestival.blogspot.com/…

What is this strange room?

The kids have been playing Riven on the computer. Riven is the sequel to Myst and is a fairly old game, 13 years old. The games take place in other universes that are created by being written by a race of beings that write books which create worlds. You wander around and look at things, solve puzzles, read journals. The games are non-violent.

At one point you can manage to take a submarine inside a lagoon to a school house.
The kids were telling me, "We found this strange…

How to Tame a Feral Cat

The kids have wanted a cat for a while. There are some feral cats living in one of ours cousin's barns. They would catch them and bring them home and try to feed or pet them and the cat would run off. After several attempts involving heartbreaking loss of kitty, I offered to tell them the secret of taming a wild cat.

It's very simple. You put the cat in an enclosed small space so that it can't run off. For example a bathroom or garage or basement. You leave it there with…

Loving our Unschooled Life

A year ago seems so long ago now and so much has changed for us as we continously strive for a happier life. A year ago was just going into our second year of unschooling and I was still full of doubts, panic attacks and feeling as if I was never doing enough. A year ago hubby was working as a fast food manager of 11 years and was had his second heart attack at age 38, quickly working towards his 3rd and perhaps his last. Not to mention we never saw him as he was always…

Emily's Observation of Socialized Kids

Emily has decided to take courses at the community college this year. She is really excited and has talked non-stop from the time she gets in the car until long after we get home. She has made some interesting observations about her teachers and classmates. One of the first things she noticed is that the kids her age are not nearly as enthusiastic about what the teacher has to say as she is. They have shown up late. They have shown up without pens and paper. She told me that…
