In case you're interested...a little about the Shannahan Girls and School/Unschool

I have an 18 year old that has chosen to go to community college (She wants to get an art degree); a 15 year-old that has chosen to take a class at a private school (for two reasons:  She wanted to play for their basketball team and she chose biology because she thought that it would be interesting); and an 11 year old who plans (for now) to never step into a school).

 

My 18 year old went to school until fourth grade.  She enjoyed school and did well according to the grades…

Homeschooled Voices: Listening to Teens

school attendance order

I have home schooled my two daughters from the ages of seven and nine,we always welcomed  visits from the school advisers.however my girls are now 16 and 18 and we feel that we do not need to see them anymore.because i refused a visit they have threatened me with a school attendance order.Am i in my rights to refuse a visit?will i be prosecuted?i am living in fear at the moment as there is no way i could send my 16 year old to school,i would go to prison…

A journey begins. Well, sorta....

I am new to this site and new to unschooling in an official sense. I say that because my kids are young-5 and 3- so although we have largely unschooled up until now, this is the first year it matters in any official (legal) sense.



Although I have always known (even prior to having children) that I would homeschool, I wasn't completely sure what route I would take. It took getting over some personal insecurities and facing some unhelpful, generalized social opinions and "norms" for me… Continue
