Bright Kids!

Oh my goodness! Many of my friends know the story of how we came to become Unschoolers. Many have read the stories of my children and shed tears for them. And along with the tears, they have shared the joys with them that homeschooling/unschooling/escape from the system has brought with it. When we realized that the standard route wasn't going to work, I was frantic on what we were going to do. I will admit to wondering just what was wrong with us that we were so different that the standard…

Noble Prize Winner's on School

So many times, I get asked, "How can he (my 11yo son) learn if he doesn't go to school?" My parents have settled their minds to the concept that we homeschool. I've explained time and time again, that we do not do school at home. We don't do school at all! My son has the freedom to do as he pleases, read what he likes, explore what he chooses. You should see the expression on peoples' faces when I tell them this! Many of them just can't grasp what living in freedom, unschooling,… Continue

Living Biology

Living Biology is something we get to experience here on our farm. Over the past few years, I've been sharing many of these experiences as they have come along. My children have been raised with many pets so I'd like to share with you our newest bebies born just this morning. First, here is the story of how these new precious babies came about.

Hobbs the daddy, was born born here on May 30, 2007. You can read his birth story at…

Flash

Easter is always such a wonderful time for the Lord's blessings. A time to remember that He has given his all for us. This year, he gifted me with a beautiful reminder that he loves me and wants me to have joy in this world. I say this, as I have been through much stress on so many levels which sometimes feels all encompassing. So let me just touch the highlights that happened this past Easter weekend.… Continue

Perpetual Motion and Entropy

As many of you who read here know, both my spouse and I are full-time working parents whom have chosen to unschool our youngest child. In stepping off the mainstream path most people follow, we have had to learn some new concepts and ideals about just what constitutes a real education and just what constitutes real value in ones life. These conversations have lead to much reflection on both of our childhoods, time spent with friends, time spent with parents, and just how did these life events… Continue

Where Does One Start?

Hi friends,

I've been getting private emails asking me about unschooling along with being in a few unschooling groups where these same questions come up so I thought I'd share a recent post with you all. Whether you homeschool or unschool, I believe the most important point is to 'see what your kids are gaining from the experience and not on what you think they are missing.' So many parents are finding their children ever so sad in the 'school system'. I would like to encourage those… Continue

The Gettysburg Address

Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

November 19, 1863

Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting… Continue

The Turkey Considered for Our National Bird by Bruce Larson

While it's true that Ben Franklin wasn't happy with Congress's choice of the Bald Eagle for our national bird, it's unlikely that he actually "lobbied" on behalf of the turkey. I know that most turkey lovers spin

the story differently but my sources, who will remain unnamed, paint a different picture of how this all went down. After Congress had made its decision, Franklin merely… Continue

Mainstream Homeschooling Article

Education Next by the Hoover Institution has an interesting article in their Winter 2009 publication. The article discusses Homeschooling going mainstream. Considering the current climate around what broadcasting (The View) allows to be said about homeschooling, I felt it was important to point out a sound article that explores the whys and wherefores of homeschooling.

In this article they discuss the many and varied reasons people choose to home school. Will Smith and his wife, Jada… Continue
