Brief, and I don't love seeing or hearing myself, but I like the background--the window was open and the curtain was moving a little. That's the best part (for me) and that plant behind me is a sea onion, or false sea onion, or something mysterious.
If you want a special version of the finished film, or advance raw interview footage,…

I think it's 32 years. This was sent to me yesterday by Beth Teel, who grew up in my hometown not far from me. She's younger, and her brothers were friends of my younger sister. Beth was one of my students, when she was in 7th grade English and again in 9th. Long ago.
The people in the photo have all changed names at least once since then…

Holly is in the next room and I can see her working happily on her MySpace stuff. We're eating "fancy oatmeal," she said--slow-cooked "real" oatmeal, with raisins and butter and brown sugar. She put half&half on hers and asked me about the relationship between half&half and cream, so I looked up the definitions of light cream, whipping cream and heavy whipping cream. Half & Half is about like light cream.
She was writing about Casa Bonita (or using it as the response on a questionna…

That grew in MY YARD. I'm so happy.

I'm draining the hot tub to clean it, but it is COLD outside, so I'm planning a quick wipe and not maximum sanitation, as this all involves water.
Holly is asleep. Marty is asleep. I hear a clock ticking, a table fountain making noise and me typing. That's nice! I like it. I hear the furnace, softly, too. The house got cold.
Lately I've been working on my unschooling pages, cleaning up links to other places that aren't there anymore. And I'm moving some of the good parts of unschooling.info to…

Yesterday I wrecked a car. That's not good.
I wrecked two cars, actually. Neither driver was hurt and there were no passengers. Photos and details are here:

The post under that has several photos of Marty and his girlfriend Ashlee.
Under that are two recent photos of Holly, who has been wonderful in my life through several recent life-and-death kinds of…

I'm really excited to have finished putting all my decent pages into a magic-like portal at
http://sandradodd.com/random
It took me most of two days to finish, and I'm really thrilled with it.
I printed out all the unschooling pages from the editing area of my site, and worked at putting in anything that was useful without being too weird a place to enter (though some might be a bit rough or shocking for absolutely new unschoolers). There are ten or so…

Holly sent this to me. I didn't even know it had been taken. Kirby took it, and must have stood on a chair.
That's Holly with the red in her hair. Then Rosie and Roxana Sorooshian, me, Bo King (who did the tree art I use on my unschooling pages), Marty, and his girlfriend Ashlee. Pam and Kirby were in the other room.
This was the second week of January, this year, at my house.
I'm going to put i…

Well good luck to me this year, but I'll think of something.
Learn Nothing Day is July 24, and I'll be in London. Y'know why?
Because the next day there's a conference and I really want to be there.

I hope to get to visit Schuyler's house, and maybe get to France, and possibly accompany a friend of mine to see friends of hers in Northern Ireland. But those are all the…

Kirby will be the guest in a chat on the phenomenal game World of Warcraft. That's Thursday afternoon, January 5.
The next day, Friday the 6th,
Pam Sorooshian will be the guest.

Long ago live chats on unschooling were cool. Lately other things have been better for unschooling information, but some people still miss live chats.
Today there was one announced in an immediate way and over 20 people came through over a three hour period. I'm going to do two more and maybe will decide to keep a regular schedule of chats.
Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at my house (
I hope c…

I was asked what my kids are doing.
Kirby, 22, visited for 11 days recently. I talk to him two or three times a week. He's been working for Blizzard Entertainment for nearly a year and a half. He's up one level and is waiting to hear if he gets another promotion at some point. I'm sure he will if he stays there long. He enjoys the job. He makes good money and hardly has time to spend it. He works from about 2:00 to 10:00 p.m., so the dire warnings that letting him sleep late would keep him from…

Yesterday my middle child turned 20. He's no longer a child, and no longer a teen.
Today my oldest child (22) returned to Austin after an 11 day visit. He sent a text message each time he was about to board a plane, and I talked to him when he was on the ground in Austin.

On New Year's Eve, I went to sleep without any of my kids home. Kirby was in Houston at a party. Marty was working until after midnight (2:00 a.m., I found out later) and then going to a party. Holly and Brett were working in the mall until after closing (he at Shoe Fitters and she at Zumiez), and then going to a party.
The next morning, Marty wasn't home. He had stayed where he had partied, which is good. Holly and Brett were here, and got up and went back to work.
Time passed. Because I was…

I haven't made a resolution for years, because I like to start the new year without setting myself up for failure. This year I'll risk it, because I want to ask something of other people, too.
My resolution is to post here and at unschooling.info much more frequently. I spend most of my online energy on
AlwaysLearning and
my unschooling pages. But there ar…
