Help

How do I satisfy My state law were I have to provide a portfolio to a certified teacher at the end of their school year or have a stanterdized testing done and still unschool the way I want???

Comment by Amanda on August 27, 2010 at 4:43pm: We also have to produce a portfolio of their 'work' to show a cert. teacher and be evaluated... I always have anxiety about it for some reason, but, as was said earlier, you can use and unschooling friendly teacher (find one by asking on your local unschool yahoo group if anyone knows of one...they can usually give you contact info), and just take lots of pictures... pics of them cooking, swimming, playing, painting, shopping....whatever your days' activities look like. Also, if you read a book to them at bed time, write it down... if they draw you a picture, put it in the folder...Look at it as 'creating a journal' for your children for later.... You will be surprised at how 'full' a portfolio can be when you are unschooling. :)

I hope to find a unschool group in Maine but we will be really rual not sure how many are active with teens I find mostly younger children groups. Besides I am still learning I have only been homeschooling since Jan of 2010 It is taking alot to deschool so I really appreciate this site so I can learn more thanks Amy
