Tuesday my sister and I went fishing and bathing in the creek. I didn't bring a cup for my hair so I was
flinging my hair from side to side to get it wet and rinsed.

When we were done, we went home and I was chatting with my mom in the kitchen when my hand went up to my ear (I tend to twirl my ear ring when I’m talking) and lo and behold my beautiful gold stud earring with the tiny ruby was gone.

“Mom! Mom!” I said, “My earring is gone!”

She looked over. “Yeah,” she said, “you probably lost it in the creek washing your hair."

I started to cry. Those were my first earrings ever. My aunt had bought them for me and now they were gone. “There there,” cooed my mom.

About half a hour later dad came home and mom told him about the earring. “Come on,” he said, “let’s go to the creek and see if we can find it." Mom rolled her eyes.

We went to the creek. “There’s where I washed my hair,” I said. We got down and scanned the bottom of the creek . “Look!" I said. There in between two rocks was a gold gleam.

“That must be it," dad said. He reached for it but some sand got on it we started moving rocks and pebbles and pulling handfuls of sand out. Finally it was uncovered. I grabbed it and brought it home.

At home, mom was at the computer. I hugged her and she asked if we’d found it. I held it up.

“Gasp!” she said. “I can’t believe that! You are so lucky and your dad is so good! Gosh, I really can‘t believe that.”

It’s in my earring box now and I will never bathe in the creek again without taking out my earrings

yeah!! the feeling of finding something lost is almost worth the awful feeling of losing something.

we had a fun finding day last saturday. the kids had gotten nerf guns and were shooting out in the yard and in the house all day. some darts were lost and so i helped them find them. we started by recreating the scene. that was the funnest part. standing where they were shooting and reshooting a dart in the direction they had shot. no luck. then they told me how they were collecting the darts. the person being shot at just collected the darts that were shot at them and not the ones they shot. this changed our entire approach. so what we thought was sadie having lost a dart was actually samuel having lost a dart. we found samuel's dart behind where sadie had been shooting, not where samuel was being shot at.

Yay!!!! Your Dad is awesome. It feels great to find something you thought might be gone for good (hmmm...but in this case wouldn't it be "gone for bad" or perhaps "gone for bummer".) Anyway..I'm glad you found it!

I am so glad for you...I just don't ever know where to look when I've lost an earring (although I've learned to check Sam and Dan's pirate box)

How cool!! I don't even know where my first earrings are and I loved them. I will remember that story when my boys lose something they love. I always try to help them find lost items. We usually find them after re-tracing their steps.
