The Evolution of Self-Awareness

Something interesting has been happening with Dmitri (3) lately. He's talking more about how he feels and seems to be noticing more.

He's just started to say that he's tired. Over the past couple of days, he's added something new: "I look tired." It's interesting to me that he's observing himself from outside himself.

For the past six months or so, his potty pattern has been to repeat, "I don't need the potty" a number of times (sometimes an unbelievable number of times) before saying, "I need the potty." I've fondly referred to this as "endurance testing" due to the furious wiggling that precedes a potty session.

Tonight he said, "I don't need the potty" a couple of times, followed by, "I sound like I need the potty." I'm always amazed when he does something new.

Sweet stories. Thanks for sharing. Mine are all big now and not so cute anymore. (Well they're cute to other young adults, but the mom thrill is different.)
