Ourselves

"I want to do it mine self," is a common refrain heard around here.

Today we were playing with fire--lighting a candle, singing Happy Birthday, and blowing it out. Dmitri (3) was focusing on the lighting the match part. He told me, "I want to do it mine self!" He tried several times with some success and then changed his mind.

"I want to do it ourselves!" So we started striking the match together again. Neat new word use and incredibly sweet moment. :-)

it's like conjugating a verb. i remember telling samuel when he was little to "behave!" (what did i know?) and he said to me "i AM being have!!"
