"A non-violent revolution".

"A non-violent revolution" is what Congressman John Lewis just called what we are witnessing right now.

NC Democrat Kay Hagan has taken Elizabeth Dole out of the Senate, and Democrat Bev Perdue is poised to be the first female governor of our state. And at this moment, with over 70% of precincts reporting, 50% of the presidential vote in North Carolina has gone to Barack Obama. NC has not voted for a Democratic presidential candidate since Jimmy Carter.

I'm such an emotional wreck, and on the verge of tears of joy and relief. The Bush era and the reign of the "good ole boys' network" is coming to an end, and North Carolina is turning blue...along with the majority of the Senate.

I am cautiously hopeful that things could turn around for the people of this country now. And in sharp contrast to how I felt four years ago, I am so (cautiously) proud of the state I live in.

Comment by ps pirro on November 5, 2008 at 4:31pm: I'm proud of North Carolina, too, Jennifer, and of my own adopted home state of Indiana, which also went blue this election (for the first time since 1964!) I was appalled by the "godless" ad put out by the Dole campaign and have long felt that she squandered her time in the Senate. We shook things up last night, and good on us for doing it. I'm glad you're (cautiously) hopeful. Me, too.
