The universes sick sense of balance....

Things were going so well and then the little one saw the episode of the Simpson where Lisa goes vegetarian and decided to be vegetarian too. It is not great timing for this choice as we are practically carnivores and are leaving for vacation to grandmas on Saturday so there isn't much in the way of food for vegetarians in the house at the moment. On the upside my Mom went vegetarian for a couple years and generally has a lot more produce on hand so it is not horrible timing either.

Problem is without talking to me at all my husband says "you know how its very important that kittens need kitten food not other foods and cat's can eat cat food and other things. Well little kids need all the nutrients so I would be a bad parent if I let you be a vegetarian till your an adult." Now its all tears and unhappy feelings and I am angry at my husband for just undoing everything I did in regards to the decision our youngest made.

So now I am put in this place where if I support my kid I am going against my husband. I don't really have a problem with the youngest being a vegetarian. I was hoping it would expand her taste for healthier foods. I just don't know how to deal with this.

Thanks for all the information. It was a short lived idea as I thought it would be. I just wish her dad had let her come to it herself and supported her rather then shooting her down telling her she was not allowed to do it till she was an adult.

Perhaps you could ask your husband to help you make a list, chart- whatever of all the foods that would provide the proposed lacking nutrients so that it would be a family effort towards helping your youngest get them...hmm.. looong sentence. Maybe you can talk to him first about your wishes to support her in her exploration:-)
