Everyone's idea and experience of home education is so different that sometimes it is so hard to get my head to settle that my way is okay...that our way is working and that our children are in fact learning, prospering.
In a conventional school environment there are scheduled classes and sometimes even dress codes in which all are required to participate or else, it is so regimented and forced that there really isn't any room or time for kids to be individuals, never mind kids. This is purposed, but why? The alternative, the thing in which we here are endeavoring to do here, is why. Are they that afraid of children? Or is it their potential they are truly afraid of? Wow...talk about stirring the waters, upsetting the apple cart. No wonder the "powers" don't like it. The whole thing was thought up to control the masses in the first place. The curious thing to me is that when you really stop and think about it, is that what most parents really want for their children or are they cooperating out of coercion and fear themselves- since most of us were schooled ourselves? They are settling for crap with a smile on their faces! It is an interesting question and many would argue that they would HS if they "could" but I really don't think they believe that themselves. The job seems so daunting, so intimidating, and they feel just not "called" to the position. Should it be the job of someone to encourage parents to explore the option? Or is that another form of coercion?
I can't imagine my life without my kids in it daily. Not just at 6am and 3pm and 8pm. Trying to force food, chores, homework, running them around, sleep. I think if this was what I chose to envisioned 14 yrs ago I probably would have chosen not to have children at all. Why bring more unhappy people to the planet? Life is hard enough. Many parents are just going through the motions and this angers me. It angers me because it is not wholly their fault. It is the system. Why don't more people follow their ideals or even know what those ideals are? Are they confused? Have they never developed their own minds? My children have even commented on the oddities of the schooling world and have inquired about plain things such as why and how?
Here it is 8am and the only ones up are d and I. He is playing WII and i'm blogging. The girls are still snug in their beds and that is just fine with me. In the early days I heard someone say or rather I probably read it..."Everyday is like summer vacation" That made me very curious. Could that really be possible? Could it be ok to allow children that freedom? Would they turn out happy, intelligent and healthy individuals prepared to contribute or rather change their worlds? I'm finding it to be so ;)
~Peace~
