I loved reading your profile! It really made me think about what I could say about me! I think mine is so lame, I should put more thought into it. I so totally want to copy this: "I have an incredibly visceral reaction to being told what to do. " That is SO me too. If the dishes are piled high and my husband says before heading to work, "you really need to do some dishes today," I'm probably NOT going to do them. Even if I had wanted to do them before he said that! (He could learn a different tact, eh?!) Anyway, it was good to see you at LIG again!
We stopped in Hawi -- cute little town where we had shave ice -- before we took the rte 250 back to Hilo. That was an amazing drive. Gary had a great time, and the views were really nice.
We drove thru Kohala on our last visit to the Big Island -- it's really lovely up that way.
Yeah, that is a busy time for you. We're pretty full up for our time in Kona -- big family reunion. Our time in Hilo is usually busier than we'd like, with family catch up time, but maybe something will shake free.
I'm also sure it won't be our last trip to Hilo. The folks are 80, and dh & I both expect there will be needful visits in years to come.
We'll be in Kona and Hilo both - Kona for a reunion weekend, then Hilo for about week with the inlaws -- in late July (arrive 15th, depart 26th early am). It would be great to catch up with unschoolers during our visit.
My boys are Andy, who turns 13 in June; and Dan who is 8.
I met an unschooler in Hilo on our last visit, but I've forgotten who that was, so it might even have been you.
Hi Alyse, I noticed you on PNW just because you were born in our adopted hometown of Corvallis. So, of course, I had to read your profile - I'm also a very s l o w knitter - took me a year to do my first pair of socks - mostly because I don't knit FAR more than I knit!
Really I just wanted to drop in to write that I love what you wrote in your profile. And who knows, maybe we'll meet someday...
Yippee! We do get to see you! I look forward to meeting your kids and getting to spend some time catching up. It's getting closer! Thanks for reading the blog, too. I know it's random and all :) but fun to keep track of the happenings and 'talk' outloud.
Hi Alyse,
My wife Trisha and I live in Oly and have two younger boys, Deacon 4 and Evan 2. We're always into meeting more unschoolers even if it's only for a few weeks a year! Our boys love playing with older kids/adults, so the next time you're going to be in town, let us know!
Hey Alyse,
hope you all are feeling better...
sending you my wellness and fleece and fuzzy socks dreams.
Let me know if you all head up this way.
We are hoping to head out for the big island again soon, as we were there last October and wanted to explore more!
Thank you Alyse for your connection.
We live up in Port Townsend. I just love what you wrote about you. I think you might be a writer and a dancer!
You were at LIG in Vancouver? We are going next year again.
Maybe we will see you then.
Alyse! Glad to see you have arrived on this here great hang out place! I really enjoyed talking with you at LiG. I so want to come visit you in HI...maybe sometime soon?! Definitely after we slow down a touch two. Yea, your here!
My daughter, Hannah, has been sprinkled on the Big Island... so even if you haven't met any RU folks with bodies, know her Very Free Spirit is there with you :)
