Hi Sally! I was thinking about you too and wondering if you came to see your family here for Christmas and got stuck in our strange storm. I meant to ask you *before* you would come out in case you wanted to meet at the park or for coffee or something. I thought it would be fun :) Thank you for saying you liked that post. I had been thinking about it a lot before that and I'm glad I was able to explain it well. Definitely not always the case! Thank you for thinking of me and pinging me. :)
Hi Sally! Yup, that was me on AlwaysLearning. Was it the thing about my son and video games? I thought maybe it was in that discussion. I'm glad you liked it - I appreciate hearing it :) A tangent... but Margaret is a surprisingly uncommon name. I haven't run across any other unschooling Margarets, although I would expect that there are some somewhere. It is a common name, but not for younger people. I just checked the social security site (http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/) and Margaret was one of the 10 most popular names from when they started counting in 1880 up through 1939. It was in the top 100 when I was born in 1974 but I've only actually met one other Margaret in my life. Now it is ranked 173. Kind of fun to look at the trends, actually :) I was thinking about you the other day, too. I hadn't realized that you were thinking about moving to Mexico! I was hoping you would come back to Washington, but Mexico sounds like an exciting possibility. What is drawing you to think about moving there?
I hadn't really thought about RU and religion. I guess for us it just comes down to letting her make her own choices. As she gets older and starts asking I'll probably try to make sure she has access to as much information about as many different religious ideas as she seems interested in.
Good to "meet" and befriend you Sally. I am about to mapquest Jamestown because I am excited to find a RU'er with boys so close in age to mine! Talk to you soon!
Cool - I figured it out. I just added them to my photos (emailed them to myself using the RUN email address they made for me) instead of uploading them to the box on the main page. It made a slideshow all by itself. Thank you!!!
Hi Sally,
Thanks for inviting me to be your friend. You're my first! (Awwwww...) I love the photos. I tandem nursed Rachel and Ethan for 10 months. and then Rachel quit. That seems like oh so long ago. :o)
We're theater folks around here, too. Rachel and I are currently rehearsing for Fiddler on The Roof.
I'll be driving through NC this Saturday (8/9). We'll either go to Carowinds or Discovery Place. But CERTAINLY eat dinner at The Red Sea (Ethiopian) restaurant.

Wow, it sounds as though you grew up quite close to my husband. Small world :) I think his yearbooks are at his parents house (or hiding in our garage) so I haven't had a chance to look, but I will when I get the chance. DH's name is Kevin and his last name starts w/Za. I think that should be enough to find him. He was also a swimmer and there may be pictures on the swim team page.
Sorry about the acronyms. SCT was right. YATP is their young actors training program in the summer. DYDP was the deaf youth drama program and they have 4 hearing actors involved and I was one of them one year. It was an AMAZING experience. It probably was too long of a drive, but I didn't start doing it until my senior year so my mom didn't have to drive me around for that long and I had a licence. I did DYDP in college.
I was looking at housing prices, and it seemed as though North Bend was fairly similar to Bellingham, but I think that you would probably have to know your exact price range to make a fair comparison. I would LOVE it if you moved here :) We spent a year without family while DH was in school and it is really nice to be close. Our first house was in Kirkland and that was a little too close. This is just about right, for us. We love where we live but we also like living 40 minutes away from my parents instead of 8. That was just a bit too close for me and probably for them too :)
Oh - I really want to do a slide show. Do you know of a page with directions or something along those lines?
You did drama and choir too? Neat :) I did some classes and plays at Youth Theater NW and did two summer programs at SCT (YATP and DYDP). My husband went to Inglemoor but he graduated in '96 so I'm guessing you weren't there at the same time. His parents live near Arrowhead elementary which, I think, isn't too far from where you grew up. We like Snoqualmie (the boonies where we are, not the enormous housing development) and there are some other unschooling families out here. I'm kind of slow to settle in to a new place, but I have found two good friends here and I'm starting to get really comfortable and I'm enjoying it. I love Bellingham too. The town has a really nice feel and I know a very cool RU mama up there. My brother is up there now... I really want to go visit soon but I haven't gotten things together yet. Will your husband's work let you move back fairly easily?
We just moved from Kirkland last year, is it home for you too? Except for some school related detours, I've lived there since I was 14 and my parents are still there. If you went to LW, you probably went to school with my brother Anthony. I had a piano teacher (Bethany - harpist) earlier this year who went to school with him too... now I really want to know if you went to school with them. If you come to Kirkland to visit family I would love to meet you, although you would probably be too busy with your family. Love the pictures of your kiddos!
Hi Sally-
thanks for the note and checking out my blog. I would love to tandem-nurse if it works out that way. I really love nursing my little girl and it actually bothers me less and less what others think. I appreciate the kid words though!
Thank you for the pic compliment! I like to think of her (me) as Kali, the goddess of destruction, using her femininity as a tool for change and revolution.
Hi Sally~thanks for the comment! It was a pleasure meeting and chatting with you as well! I am soo in love with this space! I love being able to connect in a more personal means with others--other than conferences, which I haven't attended any of --as of yet! :0)
